SHEFFIELD
INTERCHANGE
The client for this project is Sheffield Interchange and the South Yorkshire's Mayors office. The brief was to develop design proposals to enliven public areas of Sheffield Interchange that encourages social interaction and inclusion. I designed a welcoming, interactive and safe space for the public. I have also embedded environmental sustainability and wellbeing, creating biodiversity in spaces where animals and human beings co-exist.

Model of the existing interior
The kit kat chocolate bars represent long and narrow platforms of Sheffield Interchange. My conceptual design aims to open up views and create an outdoor space that encourages social interaction, gives a feeling of safety and enjoyment of the everyday.

I was particularly drawn to a precedent study of Washington Square Plaza. It is a social interaction study that inspired me to create a space that exudes vibrance, is open and welcoming to the public. The concrete seating on the public lawn is multifunctional and can be used as seating and for sporting activities such as skating.
