PROPOSAL
Introducing a modular shelving unit using recycled wood, that can evolve and grow with the help of the community.

My role was to create initial sketches.
From our site visit, we managed to get some recycled wood which we used to create a prototype of one of our units. We used a honeycomb shape, as it reflects a sense of community that our client is passionate about. Additionally, it highlights the importance of nature and is an effective shape that will allow the design to grow over time.

We designed the shelves for easy assembly. Each length of wood is 30cm and each needs to be cut at a 30 degree angle. Once all the wood is cut, all six pieces should piece together perfectly and can be easily glued or screwed together. Adding a back support increases stability and allows for easy installation.

We also proposed a potential design for the workshop space itself. We used secondhand furniture with bench seating and a stage. Additionally, we created a wall mural at the back and added string lighting across the entire space. We also added the honeycomb unit on the right.

The sense of community is important. Hence, we imagined the unit to be a showcase of items created in the workshop. Some of the hexagons can have a solid front that can be personalised by the local community. People will be able to bring any spare wood they have, that can be used to create more shelves.
The exciting aspect is that it can constantly evolve and grow over time. Here, we tried to imagine what it could look like in the future.
